2) Darksyne I love Asteroids. So much so that I even bought a watch celebrating something about the game's or the company's 30th Anniversary. I also love the various incarnations (see: knockoffs). The awfully-titled Darksyne is such a game. So it stands to reason I would also love this game, right? Truth be told, there is a chance I just might, but playing this one with a computer keyboard renders it as unplayable as the Action 52 of old. But anyway, calling Darksyne merely an Asteroids clone is somewhat unfair; it's definately an updated version of the game with gameplay mechanics and graphics that look straight outta 1987. This game's probably more Asteroids in reverse: although your ship is like the legendary Thruster plus a particle-reflection shield, Darksyne's opposition is highlighted by walls, stationary enemies and their projectiles. Plus, you also seem to have a limited amount of fuel. But other than that, pure Asteroids. Like I said, I can't really judge this game beyond what is here since a computer keyboard is just not the way to play this game. Still, though, while I can't imagine wanting to play this game ever again, this isn't the kind of stuff all-time worst lists are made of. This also makes writing a treatise whose entertainment value comes from mercilessly attacking its biggest flaws also difficult. I mean, this isn't half as readable as my first Action 52 write up, is it? |
